Our Approach
Divorce is more complex than ever before. At New Jersey Divorce Advisors, we aim to keep it simple by bringing together the three principle components in a divorce: legal, financial and emotional.
Using our Proprietary Divorce Complexity Matrix, we determine which professional experts should be involved at each step to streamline the divorce process. We match the appropriate professional with compatible personalities/styles to those of our clients. We take into account the often overlooked areas of child psychological issues, estate planning, risk management, health insurance, social security, tax implications and business valuation.
Factors such as the length of your marriage, your current lifestyle, if there are children involved, and whether you own real estate are just a few of the items we analyze to determine whether you are a candidate for Mediation or Collaborative Divorce. Collaborative divorce stems from the belief that the current adversarial method of ending a marriage is harmful to the parties, to their children and to the legal system. Collaborative divorce is a respectful, trust-based process for divorcing that returns control and decision-making back to the people whose lives are directly impacted by the final decision. It brings together experts from the legal, financial and emotional disciplines to help you reach a common goal. These experts include: family attorneys, mediators, financial planners, CPAs, forensic accountants, business valuation experts, psychologists, and life coaches.
Mediation, the original form of Alternative Dispute Resolution for Divorce, is still a viable option for many couples. While mediation does not involve experts from the fields of finance and mental health, mediation does aim to dissolve a marriage in a non-adversarial fashion through the use of a neutral third-party.
At NJDA, we are trained divorce mediators and often recommend mediation for couples where the circumstances are less complex.
